Raised in a family with connections to the arts and design industry, David L. Wilkins Sr. grew up surrounded by tools, thanks to his father and grandfather, both of whom were involved in theater. Their combined influence sparked his interest in a wide range of activities, from fishing and woodworking to art. This eventually led to him earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Communication Arts and Design from Virginia Commonwealth University, later completing coursework and attaining a mechanical engineering and landscape design certificate at Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey.
Since 1998, Mr. Wilkins has excelled as a landscape designer and supervisor at his own company, Road Runner Service, through which he designs patios, outdoor kitchens, fire pits, and plantings for outdoor living spaces and supervises a crew for installation. While maintaining this role, he started doing work for various companies. In 2007, he served as head landscape designer for Morris Landscaping, a company for which he worked home shows, spoke with clients interested in new or renovated landscapes, developed designs, made sales, ordered materials, and supervised the installation from beginning to end. He subsequently ran home shows as a landscape designer at L.P. Landscaping, Inc., and then found success at Lawnmax, where he held the same roles and supervised a lawn-cutting crew.
In addition to his primary work, Mr. Wilkins has long believed that it’s imperative to be diversified and not depend on just one job. He previously worked as a bartender at Martinsville Inn Caterers in New Jersey as well as for private house parties for more than a decade. From 2013 to 2022, he was active as a security officer for Bristol Protective Services, LLC and at G4S Security Services for a year. Since 2013, he’s found success as the executive producer of Rivalry Championship Wrestling and recently produced a documentary, “350 Days,” available on Amazon Prime and Tubi, which examines the world of professional wrestling in the 1970s and 80s and the work ethic, tolls, and everything else that goes into bringing entertainment to their fans.
Looking toward the future, Mr. Wilkins strives to continue building his artistic muscle and learn how to mount artworks and artifacts. Always staying busy, he feels “if you put your mind to it, you can accomplish realistic goals by staying focused, attending church weekly, and keeping the faith.”
